Day Treatment for Teens

Catalpa Health’s Day Treatment Program is for middle and high school students who are transitioning to a lower level of care after being discharged from a residential program or inpatient hospitalization, or are needing a higher level of care than typical outpatient counseling can provide.

Up to 20 teens in two tracks (grades 7-9 and 10-12) spend 4 hours per day, 5 days per week in intensive counseling services that include:

  • group therapy
  • individual and family therapy
  • life-skills training
  • psychiatric services (including medication management)

During the school year, the teens attend Day Treatment at our Casaloma Campus at 1920 N. Casaloma Drive (just south of the Fox Cities Stadium) from 8:30 am until 12:30 pm, and attend their school in the afternoon. The Campus includes classrooms, therapy rooms, a demonstration kitchen and a recreational area.

Here’s their daily schedule:

How long does day treatment last?

The exact length is determined by the progress your teen makes in areas such as managing emotions, improving mood, decreasing anxiety and anger, and improving decision-making, social and coping skills, and self-esteem. The average length of stay is 12 weeks.

Will it help our child?

A recent survey of parents whose kids have completed our treatment program showed these results:

  • 100% reported that there has been no contact with the legal system due to negative behavior in the child since finishing the program.
  • 80% report improved relationships with their family.
  • 70% report that their child has made positive changes in their life.
  • 70% report that their child is more hopeful about their future.
  • 70% report that their child has not needed a higher level of care.

Who pays for day treatment?

Most insurance companies will cover the cost of day treatment services if your child needs that level of care, and if the company is in-network with Catalpa. We encourage you to contact your health insurer to verify coverage.

Catalpa Cares is a program through which Catalpa may be able to help cover part of your medical care costs or help you make payment arrangements to cover the rest of your costs. Call our Access Line at 920.750.7000 for more information about eligibility for this option.

How do we get started?

Your child may be referred to us by a physician, a mental health clinician, a school counselor, or a county social worker. Or, you may choose to inquire on your own.

In any case, step 1 is to call our Catalpa Health Access Line: 920.750.7000. Our trained specialists will gather some initial information and answer your questions about the program.

If we determine that our day treatment program is the right fit for your child, one of our team members will guide you through the admission process. If other programs or services seem more appropriate, we’ll provide recommendations and referrals to best meet his or her needs.
