Catalpa Health has offered a half-day intensive Day Treatment program for 7th-12th grade students at its Casaloma Drive campus in Appleton since the fall of 2015. This program, usually lasting eight to twelve weeks, has served as a bridge between inpatient care (typically at Ascension St. Elizabeth Hospital) and outpatient therapy in Catalpa offices. During this time, more than 250 adolescent patients from across our region have received intensive mental health treatment.
After discussion with clients and their families, local service providers and other key stakeholders, the current program is being reshaped into two levels of care:
- Partial Hospitalization will move to Ascension St. Elizabeth Hospital and will be offered as a more intensive but shorter program. That will create a smoother transition from the inpatient stay for clients and families.
- Catalpa Health will add an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for patients who are transitioning between inpatient and outpatient care. This will include group and individual therapy for twelve hours per week to help clients improve their social, emotional and academic functioning.
Patients currently enrolled in Catalpa’s Day Treatment program will complete their treatment plan with Catalpa. Both the new program at Ascension St. Elizabeth and the Intensive Outpatient Program at Catalpa are expected to open later this spring.
