(Appleton, Wis. – Aug. 19, 2014) – The third annual Catalpa Health Race for a Reason presented by J. J. Keller Foundation, Inc. is scheduled to take place on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014 at Fox Cities Stadium. Gates open at 10 a.m. with mini-Grand Prix kart races beginning at noon.
Races will feature drivers and pit crew members from businesses and organizations throughout the Fox Valley, with up to 30 teams participating in six different heats. Winners of those heats will move on to the semi feature. The feature race will include the top 10 karts, which will race for the championship title.
All teams will be competing for prizes in the following categories: best kart design, best uniform, pit crew challenge, top pledge-raising team and champion for kids race cup. Proceeds from the race directly benefit programs and services offered through Catalpa Health, the Fox Valley’s mental health clinic for children and teens.
Prior to racing, which kicks off at noon, the public is invited to walk through pit row to view the karts and vote for their favorites. Pit row will be open from 11 – 11:30 a.m. The expanded Kidz Zone tent will be open from 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Activities include kids games, facepainting, inflatables, radio controlled cars, driver simulators, a life-size Operation game, a Home Depot building project and appearances by ThedaStar and local law enforcement and safety vehicles. Following the races, which will wrap up at 2:30 p.m., Boxkar will take to the stage for the winner’s circle post party. The public is invited to stay and enjoy the concert, which concludes at 4:30 p.m.
General admission for the day is a five-dollar parking fee per vehicle.
