Maria Vercimak, LPC, serves clients and families in the community as a mental health therapist for Catalpa Health’s Oshkosh office. She prefers working with teenagers and also has experience working with elementary-aged students. In therapy, Maria provides understanding to her clients regarding healthy communication, their unique strengths, and brain health. She desires to involve parents in this process so that everyone is equipped with the tools to ensure that long-term behavioral change can happen.
Maria has experience treating PTSD, anxiety, stress, ODD, Conversion Disorder, depression, and suicidal ideation. She also helps her clients address and improve their self-esteem, athletic performance, peer difficulties, spiritual struggles, anger, and sleep hygiene, and is able to assist her clients with other concerns.
Maria earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from North Central University and her Master of Arts in Community Counseling from Lakeland College. During her internship, she worked with combat veterans and was trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which focuses on treating the causes of PTSD.
For six years, Maria taught third and fourth-grade students and, during that time, received Green Bay’s Teacher of Distinction Award. Maria also worked eight years in residential care facilities in Wittenberg and West Bend, first as care staff and later as the program therapist.
Maria has given presentations about effective communication between adults and children/teens to the West Bend School District, West Bend Correctional Officers, and staff at residential care facilities. She has been a guest speaker at various church gatherings for adults and youth alike.
Outside of work, she enjoys consulting with teachers (helping them to understand their students and improve their classroom management) and helping community members have a healthy thought process. She enjoys telling and listening to stories with friends around bonfires, playing the piano, going on walks, and bike riding.
