Psychological Evaluations
A psychologist can diagnose mental health challenges and is trained to use specific assessment tools or tests to help identify or clarify issues related to intelligence, personality, academic functioning, attention, impulsivity, attitudes, autism spectrum disorders, or other behaviors. These are typically used when a problem or diagnosis is confusing or complicated, making it difficult for educators, parents, or others to know how to help a child in need. Then the psychologist makes recommendations for future treatment.
Neuropsychological Evaluations
This assessment uses tools or tests for a patient who is experiencing behavioral or cognitive issues related to a medical condition. Clients are referred by their primary healthcare provider for such conditions as seizures/epilepsy, concussion or traumatic brain injury, motor skills issues, language disturbance, or learning disabilities that are associated with a medical condition.
Concussion Evaluations
If your child has experienced a concussion and is slow to recover, a concussion evaluation can be done to determine whether the symptoms are due to the lingering effects of a concussion or some other disorder. Based on the results, treatment might include physical therapy, accommodations for school, or follow-up testing if the client is not yet able to return to physical activities.
